William Henry SimpsonWilliam Henry SimpsonBrother Simpson was born May 14, 1928 in Stokesdale, NC.  He graduated from Stokesdale High School in 1946 and the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill in 1950. He did post graduate work at the University 0f North Carolina in 1951.  After two years in the engineering department at the Western Electric Company, he entered the U.S. Air Force and served three years as an Airborne Electronics Officer.  Bill then returned to Western Electric for five years becoming a computer programmer, before moving to Pilot Life Insurance Company as a computer programmer and retired in 1983 as Manager of the Systems and Programming Department.

Bill has always been active in churches, especially Stokesdale United Methodist Church and West Market Street United Methodist Church in Greensboro.  He served several terms on the Administrative Board at West Market Street United Methodist Church, president of his Sunday school class, usher, greeter, and in other leadership capacities.

His Masonic career has been extensive.  He was initiated (June 21, 1949), passed (July 19, 1949) and raised (August 2, 1949), in Stokesdale Lodge No. 428, A.F. & A.M.  He served as Master three years, Secretary 13 years, other line officers, Chaplain many years and is a Life Member.  Brother Simpson is a charter member of Wilkerson College Lodge No. 760 and an Honorary Member of sixteen (16) other lodges.

He served as District Deputy Grand Master of the 23rd Masonic District in 1963, 1964,
and 1965 and District Education Chairman in 1970, 1971 and 1972.  Brother Simpson was elected and served as Grand Master of Masons in North Carolina in 1996 and served as Grand Orator of the Grand Lodge in 1998. He received the Joseph Montfort Metal in 2004.

Bill is an Endowed member of the Greensboro Scottish Rite Bodies, has served as Presiding Officer of the Four Bodies and as Secretary for eleven (11) years.  He received the Rank and Decoration of Knight Commander of the Court of Honor in 1971 and was coroneted 33° Inspector General Honorary in 1981.  Bill served as Secretary, Treasurer of the North Carolina Scottish Rite Foundation for 11 years.  He is a Life Member of the Greensboro York Rite Bodies and has served as Presiding Officer of each, as well as, the Order of High Priesthood, Thrice Illustrious Master, Knight Crusaders of the Cross, and Knights of the York Cross of Honor, and the Red Cross of Constantine.  He served as Grand Commander of the Grand Commandery of Knights Templar of North Carolina in 1983-1984, and was Charter Governor of North Carolina York Rite College No. 124.

He was a Life Member of Stokesdale Chapter No. 202, the Order of the Eastern Star, having served as Worthy Patron eleven (11) times.  He served as Worthy Grand Patron of the Grand Chapter of North Carolina in 1980-1981.  Bill is now a member of Greensboro Chapter No. 14 Order of the Eastern Star, and a Life Member of Oasis Shrine Temple and an honorary member of Amran and Sudan Temples.  Numerous other memberships including the Royal Order of Scotland, Roanoke Council No. 1 R. & S.M., Amaranth, Allied Masonic Degrees, Super Excellent Master’s Degree, Knight Masons, Tall Cedars and other including DeMolay Honorary Legion of Honor and Rainbow for Girls Grand Cross of Colors.

The highlight of Bill’s life came on July 19, 1952 when me married Marian Vaughn, his loving wife now over 58 years.
